James S. Davenport (“DP”) is a fifth-generation U.S. Navy servicemember who retired in 2021 at the rank of Senior Chief after a distinguished military career that included deployments to nine countries and assignments across the United States.
While stationed in Hawaii, James discovered his passion for golf and became actively involved in charity golf events and fundraising efforts. His love for the game ultimately led him to pursue a second career in the golf industry after his military service.
James attended the Professional Golfers Career College, where he earned an Associate Degree in Professional Golf Management and received the Gerald E. Hall Sportsmanship Award. He has served as a teaching professional with Lion Golf Academy, a lead instructor for First Tee of Inland Empire, and First Assistant Golf Professional at Native Oaks Golf Club.
Today, James serves as Program Coordinator for the Southern California PGA Foundation and PGA HOPE. Through his work, he helps connect veterans with the game of golf, creating opportunities for camaraderie, wellness, service, and community. Under the SCPGA Foundation, PGA HOPE has served more than 2,000 veterans and continues to expand its impact throughout Southern California.
